Kebogelan (Nudity) Defined in Bahasa Malaysia

Well, I was browsing around as usual looking up random stuff when I came upon the links below. It was from Wikipedia's translated version in Bahasa Melayu, the national language for Malaysia.

This particular find on Wiki discussed and defined 'kebogelan', which basically means, nudity in its general term, and 'kebogelan di tempat awam', which explains nudity in public. I wasn't expecting such terms to actually exist in the Malaysian language but, apparently it did. And I find that to be a good thing.

Previously, to my knowledge, such a definition in the Malay language either did not exist or was very hard to find, even online. But, with this being available in our mother tongue, it would allow Malaysians to understand the definition, ideology, and practice of nudity. It would provide a better source of information and reading material online for many of them, especially those who do not have good command of English and would much prefer reading in Bahasa.

"So, tell us about your outside interests": Is it acceptable to mention that I'm a nudist at job interviews?

Having been made redundant from my job, I have moved back down south with my parents and have recently had a few job interviews.

Unfortunately, I have not been successful in obtaining any of the jobs so far but something did get me thinking. In my last two interviews I was asked the question "what are your outside interests?" and in the first one of these I just mentioned that I liked to blog. Of course, when I said that, they asked what my blog was about. I thought about lying but then I thought, well why the hell should I? So I told them that I blog about naturism and my experiences in exploring the naturist lifestyle.

Well, as you can probably imagine, this got me some raised eyebrows and an 'oh.........really?' and then they seemed to go into, what I felt was some rather over the top, repeated comments of 'well good for you!' and 'how interesting!'. I did not get that job as they were putting it on the 'back burner' for a while apparently. 

So I went to another interview a while later for a different company and I thought that I would try again. The interviewer asked me a similar question about my outside interests and I said that I was a naturist. This time it did not seem quite such a forced 'good for you' but they did still seem slightly taken aback. So I made a bit of a joke about it, saying 'don't worry, I won't come into the office naked' etc. They then asked me some questions like what I enjoyed about it and they seemed genuinely interested in what I had to say.

Unfortunately I didn't get that job either but the interviewer said that she and her colleague really liked me and it was the partners who hadn't met me that felt I didn't have the experience. But with everything she said, this is the most positive feedback I have had from an interview ever without getting the job. She seemed really like she was genuinely pleased to have met me. So I asked her some questions about how she felt when I mentioned my hobby. Unfortunately, they were rather busy with some server issues so her reply was short:

"Being a naturist did not affect the outcome of the interview and I would not think it would affect future employment at the level you had applied for"

So, I am not overly sure of her real feelings on the subject but at least I got a reply, most people don't bother. 

Now, many of you may think that I am mad for mentioning it to potential employers. I have met quite a few people that would never dream of mentioning it to employers or anyone they know. This is often because they are afraid of stigma from friends or colleagues or from their boss. In some professions, I can see why. For example, with the wrong perceptions of nudism that often occur, if you were a teacher or child carer, it would certainly be looked down upon and you would get a lot of outraged parents, possibly investigated etc. However, as put in the interviewers reply, I am essentially an entry level, generic office worker. I do not see that my outside activities should affect my working life or how I am to be seen in a professional manner. 

And yet, I can't help but imagine that mentioning it might bring me more harm than good in the difficult enough world of job interviewing. But, until I can carry out more of an experiment, I will not be sure. I do not think that the majority of employers would let it affect their decision consciously but it would be a hard thing to forget. Then again, surely you want to make yourself memorable as an individual to the interviewer? And I do like being open and honest about my interest in naturism. It's a tough one really, so I put it to anyone reading this, what do you think?
